Have you ever been on a walk in the Philippines and saw this moth lurking around? You might think you’re quite lucky to see such a big moth. Well, lucky you-but not lucky moth! If this moth could speak, it tell you the dark experience it just encountered.
My story with these moths
It was a calm evening. I was having dinner with my family in a large restaurant. And suddenly, I saw a large, beautiful moth on a glass window. Little did I know that it was in danger. I had lots of more sightings in person. That was when I learned why they went here. They were searching for a home.
The moth story
This Tropical Swallowtail Moth (scientific name lissa zampa) started out happy in the mountains of the Philippines feeding on their host plant. But unfortunately, there were a lot of *dry spells. Which caused their host plant to grow rapidly. But that was just temporary. Then there was an overpopulation of swallowtail caterpillars, who began to eat all their host plants leaves. Their host plant was disappearing, they had to find a new food source and fast. So they fled out of the mountains and near Makati, Manila, and Taguig. Since moths are attracted to artificial lights, they went to the cities. Where their forest native host plant does not reside. Many people in the Philippines have reported sightings of these swallowtail moths, most of them in cities or in villages. But even if you’re in a different country, there are still many ways you can help. I bet you can find some!
Quick note!
Dry spells are a period of dry weather
